Marsh hits century for Punjab in IPL

28th May, 2008

A century by West Australian opener Shaun Marsh has helped Kings XI Punjab to a 41 run win over the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Marsh, the competition's leading runscorer, smashed 115 off 69 balls as Punjab compiled a healthy 3-221 from their 20 overs in Chandigarh.

Fellow Australian James Hopes chipped in with 51 while Yuvraj Singh hit out lustily for 49 off just 16 balls.

It proved too much for Rajasthan, who rested captain-coach Shane Warne and South African batsman Graeme Smith ahead of the semi-finals.

Rajasthan finished at 7-180 from their 20 overs, Niraj Patel top scoring with 57 while Australian allrounder Shane Watson made 22.

Hopes capped a good all-round match with 2-29 for Punjab, Piyush Chawla grabbing three wickets.

In the other match the Mumbai Indians had a nine wicket win over the Bangalore Royal Challengers in Bangalore.

The match had no effect on the make-up of the semi-finals with both sides failing to make the last four.

The Delhi Daredevils will play the Rajasthan Royals in one semi-final while the Chennai Super Kings face Kings XI Punjab in the other.
