IPL Match Reviews: Indian Premier League

Raina gets victory for team Chennai, Mumbai out of contention

May 27
Place : Hyderabad

Since the Mumbai team had to get a win in their next match along with the Chennai team getting defeated for them to move ahead to the semi-finals, all hopes have now crashed for Mumbai. They are out of the race now and the Chennai Super Kings has now proceeded to the semi-finals after this victory against the Deccan Chargers by 7 wickets and with 4 balls still remaining.

The semi-final matches will now see the Chennai team playing against the Kings XI Punjab team which has faced defeat twice against them. The Delhi Daredevils will have to fight against the Rajasthan Royals. Since these are knock-out matches, if they lose now then they have lost it completely.

Captain Gilchrist won the toss for the Deccan Chargers and to Dhoni’s relief chose to bat first. Dhoni’s boys then made it a point to limit the Deccan team to a low score to make it easier for them. They did it well by letting the Deccan boys make only 147 runs. The highest score in the team was made by Rao which were 46 off 46 balls. Teja followed next with 40 runs off 28 balls. Rest of the team could not perform very well and found it difficult to manage the run rate very well.

The Chennai team had a better opening than the Chennai team but Patel and Fleming could not go beyond the twenties mark. It was Raina along with Dhoni who made the total at a good pace. Raina scored 54 runs off 43 balls whereas Dhoni managed 37 off 25. Raina was awarded the man of the match for his performance today. The team had got victory and their ticket to the semi-finals of the IPL with 4 balls still remaining.
