Not even complete 20 overs were bowled in total for the two teams and the match was won by the Kings XI Punjab team. This happened due the intervention of rains in the match due to which it was cut short to 11 overs. Those too could not be completed and it was finally decided by the D/L method that the Kings XI Punjab team had won the match. The six that was hit on the final ball of the innings got them this win which would otherwise have been followed by a bowl-out. Mahela Jaywardene was awarded the man of the match for his performance.
The efforts of the Kings XI Punjab team in maintaining their batting, no matter the weather, were seen in the performance of Yuvraj, Jayawardene and Pomersbach. The captain scored 23 runs even when there was pressure of the dismissal of both the openers Marsh and Hopes. After his dismissal, the next two men, Pomersbach and Mahela Jayawardene stood their test well. Runs were coming in at an average pace when Sehwag bowled one over which got them 22 runs. This was a big mistake from the Delhi team. Also, then only 8 overs could be played by the Kings team as rain interrupted the game for the second time. The team had scored 94 runs in 8 overs with the last six runs coming off on the last ball played by Mahela.
The initial innings, of the Delhi team, had seen a wonderful start from the openers. Gautam scored 40 runs off 28 balls whereas Sehwag remained unbeaten with 51 runs. It was however after 8 overs, when the play was stopped due to rain. After delay, game was resumed but that turned the tables for the Delhi team. They certainly need to pull off their remaining four games if they want a place in the semi-finals.
