IPL Match Reviews: Indian Premier League

One-run thriller for Punjab, Mumbai’s winning streak ends

May 21
Place : Mumbai

It was a clear clincher for the Kings XI Punjab team but this clarity of victory came only on the last ball of the ultimate over. Both the teams played very well but the confusion that came at the end for the Mumbai Indians team was certainly a cause due to which they lost the match. The win for the Kings XI Punjab team came by just 1 run.

The match was a very exciting affair and will go down as a choker in the history of T20 cricket. Both the teams and many others will surely remember the match. The final over of the match saw a six, a four, which gave rise to lots of hopes but it was then followed by three run-outs and lots of confusion. This ultimately got the Mumbai Indians defeat and their six-match winning spree came to an end.

The complete score of the Kings Xi team, barring around 20 runs, came from the bat of Marsh and Pomersbach who scored 81 and 79 runs respectively. The target was set to be 190 runs. The performance of these batsmen spelled confidence and great skill.

The Mumbai Indians however did not rely on one or two performers. The top order performed considerably well. The middle and lower order failed, and the utter confusion that was seen after Tendulkar’s dismissal could have been avoided had they kept their calm. Tendulkar was the highest scorer in the team with 65 runs, his first good innings in the IPL. Jayasuriya, Smith and Nayar scored in twenties. The middle order however was lost in mayhem; one could see mismatched and uncalled for running between the wickets. All this caused a great confusion and this led to three run outs in the final over. Sreesanth and Yuvraj got 2 wickets each and the team of the Mumbai Indians lost the match by just 1 run. Marsh was the man of the match for the day.
