The spectators of the Eden Gardens were way too disappointed with the outcome of the match that they had come to watch between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings. A similar thing was seen in the match a day before in Delhi when rains spoilt the match. In this match, Chennai Super Kings were awarded the winners by the Duckworth/Lewis method by three runs.
The batting of the Kolkata Knight Riders happened first and this was by their own choice. However, the opener Hafeez who had come to open along with Butt was dismissed very early at just 6 runs. Butt however stayed on. Makhaya Ntini struck in the third over and got a hat-trick by dismissing the top order of the team. Ganguly scored 2 runs whereas Hussey could not score at all. Das however stayed on for some time in a partnership with Butt and scored 27 runs. Butt however scored the highest, 73 runs off 54 balls. The team scored a total of 149 runs giving a chase of 150 runs for the opponent team.
Rain however disrupted the innings of the Chennai Super Kings. No wicket had been lost in the eight overs that could barely be completed. Fleming stood at 32 runs whereas Patel had scored 19 runs off 28 balls. The team had scored a total of 55 runs in the eight which was three runs more than the Kolkata Knight Riders had made. These three runs got the victory for this team. Makhaya Ntini was awarded for his 4 wicket haul which he obtained in his 4 overs and also because of the third hat-trick that was obtained by him in the match.
