The Kolkata Knight Riders has little reason to celebrate in this match today. The match started very usually with the Kolkata team batting first as wished by the Mumbai Indians who won the toss. A four in the first over got the Kolkata team a bit too happy but that was all they could see happening on their side. Wickets started to fall very easily and frequently. At just 29 runs on the board, the team had lost 5 of their batsmen. Ganguly still was on the field, albeit on the non-striker’s end. This made him disabled to perform any magic even when he was there. He too then went off in a tamed fashion. This saw a brutal condition of the team and all batsmen were out on a total of 67 runs. The highest score made by a batsman in the team was just 15 runs.
The Mumbai Indians batted beautifully when it came to chasing the score, especially with Sanath Jayasuriya. Sachin was dismissed without scoring anything but that did not pull down the morale of the other opener. He went on to score a 17-ball 48 runs with boundaries and sixes and the match was over in a matter of 5.3 overs. The complete match just saw 20.5 overs being bowled for both the teams owing to the low total scored by the Kolkata team. Shaun Pollock was awarded the man of the match for his haul of 3 wickets by giving away just 12 runs in 4 overs.
