After their four losses in the first matches, the Mumbai Indians have actually made a comeback in the series. They have now reached the milestone of getting 6 wins in a row which no other team has been able to do in the Indian Premier League as yet. They got the win by a comfortable 25 runs against the Deccan Chargers who are now by all means, out of the semi-finals.
The team of the Deccan Chargers chose to field first on winning the toss and this plan backfired for them. Jayasuriya and Tendulkar opened the game for the Mumbai Indians, and played very well to give a good start to the team. Sanath scored a quick 36 runs off 15 balls whereas Sachin could get 23 runs off 19 balls. Nayar and Bravo then played in a partnership of 54 runs and made individual scored of 38 runs and 30 runs respectively. The team, in all, scored 178 runs for the Deccan Chargers to chase. RP Singh managed to get a good 3 wickets against the Mumbai Indians.
The Deccan Chargers started to bat with Gilchrist and Afridi as openers. Afridi however was dismissed on a duck unluckily. Sharma, the next man in, could not go further than 6 runs. with the dismissal of Sharma after Gilchrist in the fifth over with a stance of 20 runs for 3 wickets, the team started to face a problem that time onwards. Rao however, tried his level best and gave the team a valiant 57 runs off 38 balls but those too, were useless. Teja also scored 37 runs but wickets were being too lost too soon to get the win for them. The team finished with 20 overs and the Mumbai Indians won the match with ease.
Bravo, playing his last match in the IPL, gave his best with batting and also hauled three wickets in his spell. He was awarded the man of the match for his all round performance.
