With the crowds that had gathered to see Sachin Tendulkar make his debut in the Indian Premier League, one could only see the morale of the Mumbai Indians team soaring. It was however not Sachin but Sanath who gathered all the cheers later on. Due to his incredible performance, the team of Mumbai Indians defeated the Chennai Super Kings by a massive margin of 9 wickets with 37 balls still remaining.
The batting performance by Sanath Jayasuriya, the man from Sri Lanka, was simply killing. He scored the second fastest century in the IPL as of now by using just 45 balls. Also, he hit 11 sixes and nine fours to make a score of 102 runs out of the 114 that he scored in total in just 48 balls. The match was finished in just 13.5 overs due to his thunderous batting performance. Sachin, the comeback star, could make only 12 runs but we expect to see a similar performance from him too soon.
The Chennai Super Kings did not bat any less either. It was just that they could not match up the bowling of the other team and could not limit the Mumbai Indians in their score. Badrinath was the highest scorer from the Chennai team with 53 runs off 33 balls. MS Dhoni made 43 runs off 35 balls and the target of the team which was 157 runs was mainly set up by these two batsmen. After the match however, Dhoni owned up for the weakness of his bowling side and said they could not bowl the right line and length which worked well for the Mumbai Indians.
Sanath Jayasuriya was awarded twice today, one for the maximum sixes that he hit and the other as the man of the match for his complete batting performance which was full of action.
