The Mumbai team wound up their IPL tournament this season as they are not going forward with the semi-finals. This match was their last one in the tournament and was won by them against the Bangalore Royal Challengers comfortably by nine wickets in hand. Dilhara Fernando was the man of the match for his strong bowling attack.
The team of the Bangalore Royal Challengers was restricted to a total of 122 runs. This was caused by the bowling attack of Shaun Pollock, Ashish Nehra and Fernando who are all seamers. Their varying line and length just disabled the team of Bangalore and they could not make much runs.
The highest score that any batsman could manage in the Bangalore team was 26 runs off 20 balls and it was by White. Vinay Kumar was the next to follow with 23 runs off 17 balls. Since the overs were cut short to 18 due to the rain, the team lost 9 wickets with their total of 122 runs in the 18 overs. Fernando obtained 4 wickets against this team by giving away 23 runs in the 4 overs. Smith hauled 3 wickets at the cost of 26 runs.
The bowlers of the Bangalore team, except for Steyn, failed to affect the batsmen of Mumbai. Even the dampening rains could have no effect. Jayasuriya and Sachin opened strike for the team and as always happen with Jayasuriya in the opening, the other batsman has to play second fiddle. Sanath scored 54 runs off 37 balls while Sachin could make 40 off 43. Uthappa was on the spot of 13 runs when the game wound up with Mumbai winning the game comfortably.
