







This was the final match for the Kolkata Knight Riders in this season of the IPL as the team could not get enough points so as to qualify to the semi-finals. The match was against the Kings XI Punjab who has seen only a few defeats in the tournaments. This team lost the match today against the Kolkata Knight Riders by three wickets as they stormed and chased the target made by the Kings team.
The breaking of the foundation of the Kings team was done very well by the bowler Umar Gul who obtained 4 wickets against the Kings. Marsh and Hopes had opened the strike for the Kings when they chose to bat first on winning the toss. Marsh made 40 runs off 31 balls but was the second man to go. Hopes had already lost his wicket at just 13 runs. Sangakkara however took his place well and made 64 runs off 45 balls. Captain Yuvraj made 27 runs and Pathan could go no further than 7 runs. a target of 175 runs was made by the team for the opponents to chase.
Ganguly and Salman Butt opened strike for the team. Butt was dismissed in the sixth over and so was Das on the next ball itself. The situation worsened when Hussey was dismissed in the ninth over and Shukla in the tenth over. The team was 102 runs for 5 wickets in the fifteenth over and it looked very difficult that the remaining runs would be made in the 5 remaining overs. However, Ganguly and Gul powered their batting. Ganguly ended unbeaten and at a score of 86 runs and the target of 175 runs was achieved by the Kolkata team. Umar Gul was awarded the man of the match.
