Kings XI beaten badly, Chennai advance to final

May 31
Place : Mumbai

It was one of those matches where one could see the team in form playing against an underdog and suddenly losing to them at the last stages of the game. Exactly this happened with the Kings XI Punjab team which has played well all through the season but lost the knock out semi-final match to Chennai Super Kings by 9 wickets.

The toss was won by the Punjab team and they chose to bat first. They did not know and so did no one else that their team is going to come crashing down at just a total score of 112 runs. More than five batsmen of the team could not even reach double figures. The highest scored individual runs were 28 which were made by Powar. Mota and Marsh contributed 25 and 23 runs respectively.

The target made by the team was not enough to challenge the Chennai Super Kings however laid-back they may have seemed in the tournament. Only three batsmen needed to come down to the pitch to get this target of 113 runs. Vidyut was dismissed in the third over and no other wicket was lost by the team. Patel scored 51 runs whereas Raina made 55 runs and the target was easily scored by the Chennai Super Kings. Ntini was the man of the match for getting the initial breakthroughs in the Punjab innings.

The Chennai team will now proceed to the finals which are to be played against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday in Mumbai. Let us hope for some great action in the final match.
