To get into the semi-finals, the team of the Delhi Daredevils had to win the match against the Mumbai Indians that took place in Delhi and they won it as well. The win for the Delhi team came by five wickets. After this defeat, the Mumbai team has to win both the remaining matches that are yet to be played. Dinesh Karthik was awarded man of the match for his match-winning innings today.
The decision to field first was taken by the Delhi Daredevils when they won the toss. The opening was done in a good way by the openers Jayasuriya whereas Tendulkar made just 18 runs. The former however survived 66 runs off 42 runs. Smith too could get just 17 runs. Uthappa however played a cameo and made 46 runs off 23 balls. The rest of the middle and the lower order failed and the team could make a modest total of 176 runs. Mahesh, of the Delhi team performed very well and hauled 4 wickets in his 4 over spell.
The Delhi team did not have an opening like the Mumbai team as both openers were dismissed pretty early. Gambhir scored 19 runs whereas Sehwag was dismissed at 18 runs. Dhawan scored 27 runs whereas Tiwary made 36 runs. No player till then could get on with the play well and this was followed by Dilshan was dismissed on a duck. At that time, Karthik came in as savior for the team and made 56 runs off 32 balls. His game along with the 20 runs made by Maharoof got the team its much required victory just one ball before the 20 overs were over.
