For the second consecutive day today, the weather played a spoilsport in the matches of the IPL. Yesterday it was Delhi who suffered and today the match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Chennai Super Kings was affected. But luckily, the Chennai team was on the right side of the match and was declared the winners by the D/L method.
The Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bat first. The team started to bat with Salman Butt and Hafeez who opened the game. The latter was dismissed on six runs whereas Salman continued to give a very fine performance. Ganguly was dismissed on two runs which followed the arrival of Das. He was there on the field for some time and scored 27 runs off 32 balls. Hussey today could not perform at all and was dismissed on a duck and he gave Makhaya Ntini his hat-trick. In the end, it was Shukla and Saha who scored in mid-tens when the innings finished. The total score put on the board were 149 runs.
The Chennai Super Kings started to bat and it was Patel and Fleming who opened the game. They had hardly played 8 overs and scored 55 runs when a very severe dust storm hit the area and a heavy rainfall that followed made sure that the match could not be continued. By D/L method, it was decided that the team of the Chennai Super Kings won the match as they were 3 runs ahead of the other team in 8 overs.
The Chennai Super Kings now have 14 points with this victory while Kolkata are stuck on 10 in their 11 games. Makhaya Ntini was awarded the man of the match for his spell and more importantly his hat-trick which destroyed the team of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
