The match between the teams which lie at the lowest positions in the scores tables in this season of the Indian Premier League was won by the Bangalore Royal Challengers. They won against the Deccan Chargers by 5 wickets with 6 balls remaining still with them. They made sure that the Deccan Chargers walked off with the lowest points and are the “wooden spoon” of the tournament, for this season at least.
The Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat first. Adam Gilchrist and Gibbs batted first to open the strike. The opening of the team was excellent with the captain scoring 46 runs off 37 balls. Gibbs scored 47 runs off 34 balls. After the dismissal of the openers, the condition of the team worsened. Sharma could score only 17 runs along Rao who managed to get 26 runs off 12 balls. The rest of the batsmen however failed to perform. Three batsmen were seen to be dismissed on ducks and those who were not, made a score in single figures. The team posed a modest total of 165 runs for the Bangalore team to chase.
The Bangalore team however was seen to perform as a team today. It was no big innings that seized the match but small cameos that came from Kallis who scored 31 runs, Misbah with 34 runs, Dravid who made 31 runs and Virat Kohli who made 31 runs. The last cameo came from Akhil who scored 27 runs off just 7 balls and got victory for the team.
The man of the match was Vinay Kumar from the Deccan Chargers who hauled 3 wickets in four overs against the opponent team.
