IPL Match Reviews: Indian Premier League

Kolkata sink to 67, Mumbai get massive victory

16th May
Place : Mumbai

This match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Mumbai Indians was in one word a real treat for the spectators who had come to watch it. It was what any team supporter could have just dreamt off. The match was won by the Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets and that too with 87 balls remaining.

The team of the Mumbai Indians just gave a spectacular performance whether it was the bat or the ball or in the field. It seems that the magic of the return of Sachin Tendulkar in the team is actually working. His mere presence is taking its toll on the opponent team. The team of the Mumbai Indians won the toss and chose to field first. This decision really paid off very well. The highest score in the team was made by Ganguly and Agarkar who made 15 runs each. Salman Butt was the only other batsmen to get to double figures with 13 runs. All other players in the team could not go higher than 5 runs. Wickets were lost so very regularly and Pollock hauled three in the process with Bravo, Raje and Thornely getting 2 each. The total of the team was a very low 67, the lowest in the IPL till now.

This target was actually a piece of cake for the Mumbai Indians. Like last match, Sachin and Jayasuriya opened the strike for the Mumbai Indians. Sachin was however dismissed on a duck. Uthappa then came in and made 9 runs before his dismissal. Meanwhile, Sanath Jayasuriya was doing his work well. He made 48 runs off 17 balls and the team won the match in just 5.3 overs getting a massive win over the Kolkata Knight Rider defying all their efforts to get back in the game. Shaun Pollock was awarded the man of the match for his spell.
