In the entire cricket world, the Indian Premier League is the most exciting new development. The first season of the Indian Premier League consisted of 59 Twenty20 matches played by eight franchises based in the major cities of India. The top four IPL 20 20 teams reached the semifinals and then to the final. Many of the world’s top cricket players like such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath have signed up to take part in the IPL 20 20.
The inaugural season of the Indian Premier League started on April 18, 2008 and ended on 1st June. This league was created as well as promoted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and was backed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The entire format of the Indian Premier League 2009 will remain the same as it was for the IPL 20 20 2008. All the eight franchise will play against each other. The only changes that has been made in the 2009 IPL is that each of the franchise has been allowed to increase the number of foreign player from 8 to 10 and the limit of players purchase has been increased from 5 to 7 million.
For the IPL 20 20, there are five ways through which a franchise can acquire a player. In the annual auction, by buying domestic players, signing uncapped players through trading and buying replacements. The player can be traded in the trading window only with his consent.
Each squad of the IPL 20 20 should have minimum 16 players plus one physiotherapist and a coach. Although the number of international player has been increased from 8 to 10, but the playing XI remains unchanged at 4. In each team of the IPL 20 20 minimum 8 local players and minimum 2 players under-22 must be included.
